the rain, the soil, the mud

went back to nanyang to help out with guides today. felt so loved when the principal patted me on my head haha! it felt like i just returned home :) i don't know whether mdm mak recognizes me, the girl who so eagerly shook her hand on her first council investiture, the girl who makes weird announcements during morning assembly, the girl who enthusiastically (or maybe desperately) wanted to take a photo with her at the president guides' ceremony. lol, i sure hope she doesn't remember me as a joker.

really disappointed when it rained, since they planned to do outdoor cooking today. ended up listening to the guides' asean presentation for testwork.

the rain, the soil, the mud. i miss outdoor cooking so much so much, and i especially remember how hard we trained for it during the pga days. despite the rain, we turfed so much at the school lawn that it literally turned into a graveyard - with the pits laid neatly side by side, and perfectly rectangular. in the rain, we tried to set the chunk of wet twigs and leaves on fire with simply one matchstick. tough. i still remember lowly's words. sometimes, the going gets so tough that during outdoor cooking, you are no longer able to differentiate between smoke-tears and real tears. yet the sense of satisfaction you get when the leaves and twigs start crackling under the heat and catch fire, and especially when the water starts boiling.. it's indescribable. the smoke, the dirty muddy shoes, the smell of sweat, the people.

today i walked past the lawn again. it was a nice spread of green, no graveyard pits, nobody, it was just the rain showering the lawn. im so glad memories are alive.

oh! and im so proud of my bro! full marks for his marksman test! and he came back exclaiming, "there's a reason why people call me king". so ego! haha but im proud of him all the same!

inter-club bridge league. im playing against congenital optimists tomorrow. hope i wake up tomorrow feeling even more optimistic than them! jia you jia you jia you. cannot screw up. no mistakes no mistakes!

hey hey hey, it's thinking day! LOL.
